Search is a project by Misirli Ahmet, whose album “The Search” was released in 2005. The music style is oriental, jazz, fusion. Turkey’s leading darbuka player Misirli Ahmet is renowned for having developed the technique of the open finger, allowing the instrument to be played very quickly. His music encompasses a variety of genres and is influenced by Indian, Arabian, Latin American music and jazz. Ustad Misirli Ahmet was born in 1963 in Ankara, Turkey. He began to play the darbuka drum when he was 17. There were no musicians in his family so he learned how to play the drum by himself. He carried on his musical life in Ankara until 1987, when he went to France and continued working on his own. While he was working, he discovered the distinctive technique which he has kept improving to this day. Later he went to Egypt and worked with well-known and influential musicians of the time. He recorded his first album “Oriental Dance and Percussion” (1992) in Cairo and became very famous with for his technique, sense of rhythm, solos and his philosophy. Afterwards he came to Istanbul and accompanied a lot of musicians in their albums and songs. After some years he returned to Egypt and began to work on the “Deholla” (the bigger version of darbuka) in Sina Desert. He created a new playing technique on the deholla. Following his period in Sina Desert he visited Spain and decided to live there. In Spain he worked in the flamenco style and recorded two albums within two years. In the albums “Mel de Cabra” (2000) and “The Search” (2001) he performed with Spanish, Jewish and Turkish musicians. |
