REUBEN DE LAUTOUR Karaoke (2000 - 2008) electronics Istanbul, NZ Premier Karaoke is a series of intermedia works that I began in 2000. The works are all based on a simple process: audio visual recordings of interviews with various subjects are time stretched to an extreme point where the prosodic qualities of speech become melodic, while facial micro-expressions are prolonged. The aim is to capture sub-textual levels of expressiveness and narrative in human speech and gesture, and amplify these with additional music and graphics. New Zealand born Reuben de Lautour is an intermedia artist and musician living in Istanbul, Turkey. He teaches digital arts, music production and music composition at Istanbul Technical University's MIAM centre for advanced musical research, and also records and works for Istanbul based electronica label Elec-Trip records with his solo dance project "Orange" and as a member of electro-rock band "Zi Punt". Before coming to Turkey, Reuben studied music composition with Paul Lansky at Princeton University, where he is currently completing a PhD in music composition.
